***No School - April 6-10 for Easter Break***
***No School - Friday, April 28th ---Golf Tournament***
3rd through 8th grade students will take the Iowa Assessments the week of April 17th - April 21st. Please do not schedule any unnecessary appointments during this week. Students need to get plenty of sleep, eat a protein-rich breakfast, get to school on time, and be sure they have a water bottle and a healthy snack each day. Please visit with your children about doing their best on the tests. There is no reason for the students to feel stressed or uneasy about the tests. Through their regular class work, the students are more than prepared.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
Did you know... Child abuse comes in many forms. Most people identify child abuse as physically hitting a child. Neglect is also a form of abuse. Failing to provide a child with proper nutrition, housing and supervision can cause irreparable harm. Expectations that a child be an active participant in the care of home and family, or even age-appropriate jobs is a part of healthy development. But excessive demands can cross into a form of servitude that is beyond the societal norms. Child pornography is a form of sexual abuse, with real victims in every image. The viewing of these images is an offence against the human dignity.
Thank you to all the families that have signed up to donate something for the golf tournament. There are plenty of items left and needed to help make our tournament a success. Please consider gathering a team to play, sponsoring a hole or signing up to donate an item or two.
We look forward to a great spring fundraiser!

Soccer Clinic Info - Tuesdays
For those families who have signed up for the Soccer Star Soccer Clinic on Tuesdays, please help your child to plan ahead to bring their water bottle and shorts to change into if needed for the clinic. Girls can wear their soccer shorts under their jumper/skirt with their school polo. Boys can wear their uniform shorts or just bring a pair of shorts to change into with their school polo shirt. Simplifying the changing of clothes will help teachers/coaches immensely and save valuable clinic time. This is a great opportunity for you to teach your child responsibility and how to plan ahead to prepare for this after school activity. Many thanks to Chris Dean and David Bagan for offering this program to SJL students!

You may have heard we had a School Accreditation Team on site March 30-31. The GREAT news is SJL was reaccredited with MNSAA, Missouri NonPublic School Accrediting Association! MNSAA is recognized by DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) as an accrediting entity for nonpublic schools in the state of Missouri. This accreditation means SJL meets certain standards in the areas of curriculum, teacher qualifications/certifications, building/grounds/maintenance, fiscal/budget, and Catholicity to name just a few. A verbal report was shared with the faculty on the last day the team was on site. The written report from the visiting team will be sent to SJL in a couple of weeks. From that written report, a 5 year plan to address our school needs and areas for growth will be developed in conjunction with our entire campus including the parish and ECLA.
